Project Overview
Look Smart-As part of our ongoing interest in search as a critical web
activity, we did a variety of work for Look Smart, one of the early
search engines (for a while supplying search to MSN) which culminated in
a prototype of an iconographic search interface in the health category.
The idea was to create a way to search and refine searches without
typing queries in an input box. We developed an interactive icon of the
human body, which users could click on rather than typing, for instance,
"knee pain." The prototype returned results based upon the area clicked
as well as opening more detailed views of the body in the style of the
old educational toy "The Visible Man/Woman."
